Dermatologist recommended skin care

A proper daily skin care routine can go a long way in keeping your skin looking and feeling healthy and beautiful. Gentle cleansing, moisturizing and sun protection are the building blocks of any dermatologist-recommended daily skin care regimen.

Cleansing—treat yourself gently!

Regardless of whether your skin is dry, oily, or somewhere in between, dermatologists recommend using a mild, non-irritating cleanser rather than a harsh soap, which can strip the skin's natural oils. And don’t stop at your neck! Gentle cleansing should be your rule of thumb for the entire body, not just for your face.

If you have sensitive skin, avoid cleansers that contain fragrances and dyes—they may irritate your delicate skin.

As tempting as a hot bath may be, don’t wash your face, bathe or shower in hot water. Instead, keep it lukewarm. Try to limit baths or showers to 15 minutes or less, to prevent skin from drying out. And go easy with exfoliation! Harsh, gritty facial scrubs and scratchy body loofahs can not only irritate skin, but may actually disturb your skin’s protective layer, making it more difficult to keep moisture in and bacteria out.

Dry off using a soft towel and be sure to pat, not rub! Most dermatologists recommend moisturizing while skin is still slightly damp, so be sure to leave some moisture on the skin.

Moisturizing— healthy skin needs moisture!

Your skin is your first line of defense against pollution, irritants, allergens, bacteria and more. To protect against these everyday hazards, skin needs to be functioning at its best. In order to do its job well, skin's moisture barrier needs to be strong and intact, to keep moisture in and irritants out. But there a lots of ways that this moisture barrier can be impaired... cold weather, dry indoor conditions, sun, wind and certain diseases can all reduce its ability to retain hydration. And when skin becomes dry, it doesn't just feel uncomfortable. Dry skin can crack and peel, leaving you more susceptible to outside irritants. Restoring proper moisture makes skin stronger, healthier, and makes it feel much better, too. Effective moisturizing can even help calm chronic skin conditions, improving overall skin health.

The most effective time to moisturize is while skin is still damp from a bath or shower; that way, moisture is sealed in. Moisturize at least twice a day, even more if your skin needs it. It's hard to overdo it, so let your skin be the guide.

If you have sensitive skin, it's important to choose the right moisturizer. Fragrances (even the ones that smell great), dyes and other additives can easily irritate your delicate skin. Solvex has a full range of cosmetic products that have been clinically proven safe and non-irritating to skin like yours. See products of Elea Q10 Active cosmetic line for dry and sensitive skin.

Sun Protection—everyone, everyday!

You don't have to sunbathe to expose yourself to damaging UV rays. Everyday exposure adds up and can increase your risk of developing skin cancer, not to mention wrinkles and other signs of premature skin aging. Unfortunately, these risks apply to everyone, even people with skin of color.

Everyone, regardless of skin tone, needs everyday protection from the sun. Do you know that on a cloudy day, 80% of the sun's rays still reach your skin? Sun protection needs to go beyond the beach and be incorporated into your daily skin care routine.

If you can, try to avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak hours (10:00 AM to 4:00 PM). If you plan to spend time outdoors, be sure to reapply sunscreen every two hours. Also, wear protective clothing such as long sleeves and a wide-brimmed hat. Thoroughly examine your skin once every three months, and visit your dermatologist for a yearly skin cancer screening.

One of the easiest ways to protect your skin is to wear a sunscreen, or a moisturizer containing sunscreen, every day of the year. Look for products that provide at least SPF 15 protection, although SPF 25 is an even better choice. The best products offer “broad spectrum” protection, meaning that they protect you from both UVA and UVB rays. All products of Solvex cosmetic line Elea Sun Care, as well as sun protective creams with SPF 25 of Elea HydroMat and Elea Q10 Active are a great choice.
